Dentures provide a surface for Candida to attach to, and if they are not cleaned thoroughly or removed at night, the area of the gums covered by the prosthetic becomes a breeding ground for yeast. This is often referred to as “denture stomatitis.” 

Smoking also alters the oral environment by reducing oxygen levels and affecting the health of the mucous membranes. This makes it easier for the fungus to establish itself and harder for the body to clear the infection. Maintaining a rigorous cleaning routine for both natural teeth and dental prosthetics is essential for disrupting the fungal biofilms that lead to symptomatic thrush.
