How Common Is ADHD Combined Type Compared to Other Types?

ADHD combined type refers to individuals who show both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive traits. It is the most diagnosed form of ADHD in both adults and children. When you hear the term “combined ADHD,” this is likely the subtype most people, including professionals, are referring to.

ADHD Type Comparison

  • ADHD Combined Type: The most common, making up around 50–70% of diagnoses
  • Inattentive Type: Represents roughly 20–30%; previously known as ADD
  • Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: Less common on its own, around 10%

These figures are general estimates and may change based on factors such as gender and age. For instance, hyperactivity is often more noticeable in younger boys, while inattentive traits are more commonly observed in girls.
