Are there any reported cases of complete fibromyalgia remission using cannabis?

Author: Julia Sutton, MSc | Reviewed by: Dr. Clarissa Morton, PharmD

Cannabis has shown promise in managing fibromyalgia  symptoms, but what about total remission? While anecdotal stories exist, documented cases of full remission from cannabis remain extremely rare. Fibromyalgia is a complex condition with no known cure, and treatment usually focuses on symptom control rather than elimination.

That said, there have been a few rare cases where individuals report significant improvement or even extended periods without symptoms, often attributing their results to cannabis-only therapy. These examples, while encouraging, are not yet supported by large-scale scientific studies.

What the rare reports of remission reveal

Here’s what we know about remission from cannabis and the surrounding discussion:

Complete Symptom Disappearance

Some users report all pain, fatigue, and brain fog vanishing after beginning cannabis-only therapy, though these stories are isolated and not universally replicable.

Rare Cases with Long-Term Impact

These rare cases often involve consistent dosing, carefully chosen strains, and other lifestyle changes, making it difficult to credit cannabis as the sole factor.

Lack of Scientific Confirmation

There are no peer-reviewed studies confirming true remission from cannabis alone. Most clinical research supports symptom relief rather than full recovery.

Personal Definition of Recovery

In some cases, “remission” means a return to normal daily functioning rather than a complete cure, highlighting the subjective nature of full recovery claims.

Hope Balanced with Caution

While the idea of remission is appealing, medical professionals urge caution. Cannabis-only therapy may help, but it should be part of a broader treatment strategy.

In short, complete remission from cannabis is not common but individual experiences continue to shape new questions and future research directions.
