Specific Triggers: 

  • Severe Dehydration: Caused by vomiting, diarrhoea, or not drinking enough during an illness. 
  • Medications: Certain drugs like Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), ACE inhibitors, and some antibiotics can stress the kidneys, especially when a person is dehydrated. 
  • Sepsis: A life-threatening reaction to infection that impairs blood flow to vital organs. 
  • Contrast Dyes: Used in some medical imaging (like CT scans) which can be ‘nephrotoxic’ in high-risk patients.
